Are you just getting started in the world of social media marketing and not sure whether your efforts are having an effect? Today I want to talk about 7 subtle early signs that can tip you off that your social media marketing isn’t working.

7 Subtle Early Signs That Your Social Media Marketing Isn’t Working

1. Your Google Analytics Show No Change in Website Visitors

When your social media marketing campaign isn’t working, you will notice no significant change in your Google Analytics traffic numbers. A successful campaign will show an increase in traffic on your website. If you see no increase in traffic, take time to do some research on your competitors and take a leaf out of their book when it comes to your social media marketing approach.

2. Your Followers Aren’t Engaging with You

Having a lot of followers on your social media accounts doesn’t mean as much as most people think it does. What matters is the level of engagement that your followers have with you because this is a better indication of their interest in your company or brand. Try being more interactive with your followers to gauge what it is that they are looking for.

3. Your Sales or Inquiries Are Going Nowhere

It’s not fair to expect a boom in growth just as you begin your social media marketing campaign, but you should see some growth in sales or inquiries. If you don’t notice any change in these figures, it’s time to reconsider your approach to social media marketing. What you are doing now just isn’t adding to your success as a business so take time to reassess and see where the incongruency is occurring.

4. The On-Site Behavior of Your Website Visitors

Using Google Analytics, you can determine the activity of website visitors who have been sent to your site via social media. If your website visitors from social media are immediately leaving your website after clicking through, then something is going wrong. Certainly, it could be a problem with your site or your content, but it could also be a problem with your social media marketing campaign. Are you adequately reflecting your website content through your social media marketing campaign or are you promising content that just isn’t there? Try taking a new approach to marketing on social media that more accurately reflects your content.

5. You’re Sending Out More Than You’re Bringing In.

If you are paying a company to manage your social media campaigns for you but you are seeing no change in your sales or productivity, then there’s a problem that needs to be addressed. There could be any number of reasons why this is the case, but the bottom line is that if you are paying for someone to manage your accounts and are not seeing a return on your investment within a relatively short period of time, it’s time to make a change. Talk to the company you have hired and ask to see the numbers with an explanation of why you are not yet seeing results.

6. Your Followers Just Aren’t Liking or Sharing Your Social Media Posts

Social media success is built on interactivity and if your followers are not retweeting, replying to, or otherwise sharing your content, then your content is just not doing the job. It could be that your content isn’t interesting clients, that you’re targeting the wrong audience, that your content is poorly presented, or that your demeanor just isn’t appealing. Whatever the reason, you need to make adjustments that will make your content more appealing and increase the chances that it will “go viral”. Try taking a new approach, sharing content that more accurately reflects your brand or that takes a more or less casual approach to your niche.

7. No One Is Noticing You

If your account is going unnoticed, you’re not getting new followers, you’re not getting retweets or shares, you’re not getting sales, you’re not getting feedback or reviews…If all you hear are crickets when you hit social media then it’s pretty obvious that your social media campaign isn’t going to plan. So, what can you do about it? Change your approach and be willing to change it again if you don’t see any results. To make social media work for you, you have to be able to change your approach as many times as necessary in order to get results and it takes time to get to know your audience.
